Bolivia Condemns Politicization in the Case of the Cuban Five

HAVANA, Cuba, July 21 (acn) Bolivia’s Deputy Minister of Culture Pablo Groux denounced the politicization of the case of the five Cuban anti-terrorism fighters imprisoned in the United States; they have been jailed for almost 10 years now.
The Bolivian official said that as long as Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez are in jail, it is a duty of all Latin American revolutionaries to demand
their release.

Groux described the recent ratification of the verdicts of guilty against the Cuban Five as an eminently political decision and not one of justice, reports the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website.

The top official said that a group of activities organized by the Cuban embassy in La Paz will also take place to explain the large number of irregularities committed in the process against the five innocent Cubans.

Since September, 1998, the Cuban Five have been serving harsh sentences in the United States for the supposed crime of espionage.

However, the source affirms that their defense lawyers and the Cuban government have presented solid evidence demonstrating that they were only collecting information on terrorist actions planned in south Florida against the island.
