Bolivia for Clear Ties with US

La Paz, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia reaffirmed its desire for clear diplomacy with the US and enhancement of bilateral ties based on respect of its sovereignty and national dignity.

At a meeting with US Secretary of State for Latin America Thomas Shannon, Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca reaffirmed the will to focus on trade, fighting drug trafficking, emigration and cultural and intellectual exchange.

He added that Bolivia will welcome US students and delegations to exchange experiences as part of its interest to hold cultural exchange with the US but those ties must be honest.

Bolivia also called for more transparent aid from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), accused of involvement in subversive activities and extraditing ex President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada who is wanted for genocide.

The parties agreed that the meeting helped gauge the complicated bilateral ties, following charges by President Evo Morales and other officials of a US-led destabilizing drive.
